What Is E-E-A-T?

A Quick Guide To E-E-A-T

When it comes to ranking in the search engines, Google will always be looking to rank the sites that offer the highest amount of authoritative content.

Originally just E-A-T, Google recently added that extra “E.” So what does it mean?

What Is E-E-A-T?

The acronym “E-E-A-T,” stands for Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness.

Now, let’s keep in mind that E-E-A-T isn’t an exact ranking factor, but it reflects the quality of a site and Google only wants to push quality information to users.

So let’s go over which each one means!

Experience

When you have first-hand experience of something, users love that. Think of product reviews or even recipe blogs.

Google’s updated Search Quality Rater Guidelines say this about experience:

“Consider the extent to which the content creator has the necessary first-hand or life experience for the topic. Many types of pages are trustworthy and achieve their purpose well when created by people with a wealth of personal experience.

For example, which would you trust: a product review from someone who has personally used the product or a “review” by someone who has not?”

That’s why it’s great for any kind of company to have a blog. Whether you’re a wedding planner or coffee shop, when you show content with valuable info, people love that!

Expertise

Another benefit of having a company blog is that you can show your expertise in the industry.

You’ve been at your job for years—you have so much information to share with potential and current clients!

Often, I’m asked how a blog can best reflect expertise. Here are some examples:

  • A guide to planning an event
  • Create a How-To
  • Give a list of activities or tips

Authoritativeness

So how does Google judge the authority of your site?

This is where off-page SEO shines. Your site’s authority is determined by the amount of backlinks and references from outside sources. When a site provides you a backlink, whether it’s NoFollow or DoFollow, this is essentially offering credibility for your website and brand.

Trustworthiness

I’m sure you have heard of plagiarism, right? Well, when you use AI to write articles, there’s a real chance your content will be plagiarized. And Google will absolutely penalize you for it!

It’s important that your content is accurate!

It’s also important that you offer solid contact information on your site, including where you’re based and how users can reach out to you.

And, when writing your article, make sure to only use scholastic resources when giving any quotes or references. If a professor wouldn’t allow it in a research paper, don’t use it!

Wrapping Up

Whether you’re building a site or creating content, you need to make sure you keep E-E-A-T in mind, at all times!
